Jury selection in the trial of Donald J. Trump has concluded.

However the trial turns out, it should be deeply reassuring to Americans that we still live in a country where a group of 12 ordinary citizens get to decide the guilt or innocence of a president.

The Founders did not want “a man unprincipled in private life,” “desperate in his fortune,” “despotic in his ordinary demeanor,”

Someone who scoffs at “the principles of liberty,” and “falls in with all the nonsense of the zealots of the day.”

In short, they did not want you.

The world is watching.

We should have delivered critical aid to our allies months ago.

I’m glad we’re one step closer today – and I’m looking forward to voting for final passage this weekend.

Trump is finally sitting in a defendant’s chair. Where he belongs.

But the Supreme Court has been delaying the far more significant reckoning over Jan 6.

Past time for justice to be served there too.
