Some primary schools had both SATs and Ofsted this week, and then found out this morning that they'd been selected for writing moderation.

On another subject, does anyone have any thoughts about why there's a retention crisis in teaching?

If you've been involved in the creation of this year's SATs tests then:

1. You don't like children
2 You don't understand primary education

Made a start on our reading identities this afternoon and it was pleasing to see such a range of interests and choices. All teachers should take the chance to get to know their students in this way and encourage these types of discussions.

Well, I've now read the 3rd Cardboard Kingdom by Chad Sell and it could well be my favourite - although all 3 are just a complete joy. Beautiful messages hidden in a world of imagination: friendship, courage, acceptance and, of course, creativity. Just love these books!

Poetry Comics, written and illustrated by Grant Snider, is an absolute delight. Thoughtful, funny and enjoyable poems alongside lively illustrations. Can see it becoming a real favourite with my class, both for Poem of the Day and as an individual writing prompt.

Go. To. GBNews. Now.

I cannot believe the BBC allows this. She's long been a Tory mouthpiece but client journalism of this magnitude should not be allowed.

If you ever want some quality booktalk around picturebooks & a chance to win the Klaus Flugge Prize shortlist for your school/library then do consider taking part in the competition I have put together here. It's free.

Just finished this from Melinda Salisbury Author Updates and Barrington Stoke. A brilliant new app leads to devastating consequences for a teenage girl.
It's too strong for primary but if I had a child at secondary I'd make them read it. It's genuinely terrifying and couldn't be more relevant.

3 weeks until half term.
Finished Windrush Child, what next?
The masterpiece that is Orphans of the Tide by Struan Murray.
It's going to take a lot of reading to get through it in 3 weeks, but I think we'll be OK.
First 2 chapters at the end of today.
Yep - they're hooked.👍

Spent the end of the day outside, glorious sunshine, reading Windrush Child, all my class reading along with their own copy.

Those moments? Wow. I'll never take them for granted.👍
