It’s very disappointing to see just transition, community wealth building, fair work and wellbeing all dropped from Scotland’s ministerial roles

Now is not the time to be reheating old economic orthodoxies gov.scot/about/who-runs…

Bidenomics has run into the same problem that Roosevelt's commitment to planning did - the lack of state capacity (now to spend, then to plan).

Why we have a national debt youtu.be/M2kVowF2HyA?si… Ignore politicians: we need a national debt. Not only is the national debt not a burden - or even something that will ever need repayment - but its existence if fundamental in the management of the economy. Everyone needs to…

It's hard to understand a take like this. Even when you fully appreciate the underlying assumptions of neoclassical economics that governments 'mess up incentives'. The lack of concern or even interest in people with debt overhang is really heartless.

And to make the already wealthy more wealthy. 'Productivity' 'value for money' was all just a smoke screen.

Looks like our advice to start being realistic about the power of a devolved administration has been ignored. Our new FM speaks like he leads a powerful government. When you take on all the responsibility without the authority, you only end up disappointing everyone.

I wrote about this problem in the The Common Weal newsletter a couple of months ago - because we know this is coming, but we're still building in the areas most likely to be affected - setting up an even bigger risk to come.

The best politicians embrace debate, disagreements and people arguing against them. They know it is part of a democracy and key aspect of the polticians job. The worst politicians tend to avoid debate situations and/or take umbrage, get defensive or even outraged.

Just to be perfectly clear, finding government officials who do understand the monetary system/monetary operations is a lot harder than finding those who don't. From Warren B. Mosler's book. moslereconomics.com/mandatory-read…

US and Canadian friends, our book Invisible Doctrine: The Secret History of Neoliberalism is out in North America on June 4th.
I think you'll find it highly relevant.
Thanks

'Governments don't borrow. They enable private banks to exchange one form of money (cash) for another (bonds) mainly to control the overnight interest rate. Bonds, like taxation, don't fund govt spending. Selling bonds is a policy and an operational choice.'

Most 'orthodox/neoclassical/mainstream' economists. Heterodox Economists are a different sort who live in the real world.

Very pleased to see this! Hopefully we can all get together with the new administration and talk about the alternative to the damaging neoliberalism growth model undermining the whole of Scotland's economy and society.

There's about 10 things wrong with Andrew's pro unionist narrative. He is now blind to the economics he used to know about. Park under nonsense.
