MAUVE survey astronomers Dr. Adam Watts, Barbara Catinella & Luca Cortese have used ESO's VLT to map the gas streaming from nearby galaxy NGC 4383, showing how the space between galaxies fills with elements - and giving clues to why star formation stops. icrar.org/outflows/

The number of spacecraft heading to the Moon is increasing quite quickly - you need >20m antennas to communicate to lunar distances. I wonder who has some of those?

Congratulations Jayender Kumar on formal acceptance of your PhD thesis. So you're now officially Dr Kumar! A nice note on which to finish the working year

First interferometric fringes to the AuScope VLBI Yarragadee 12m antenna at 6.7 GHz! What does that mean? Great opportunities and capability for geodesy and astronomy. Thanks to Brett, Jamie, Lucas, Warren, Lucia, Jim, Mark and many, many others

Why is doing stuff in space so hard? 😓Its remote and extreme conditions are beyond anything we experience here on Earth. But Australia’s scale and range of environments from Antarctic to our deserts is a great training ground

Location, location, location - just as important in spacecraft tracking as realestate. Awesome work again by the University of Tasmania Space team. The important moments happened with the spacecraft pretty low in the sky from Hobart, but beautiful clear images and telemetry.

A beautiful shot that brings back lots of memories 📡 Travel restrictions over the last few years have left us with a backlog of things to be done at our 'mainland' observatories and Brett enjoyed this sunset so much he is going back for more.

This antenna was constructed in the University of Tasmania physics workshop about 40 years ago. It was the first large parabolic antenna we operated and despite its modest size it has collected the data for nature papers. I'm looking forward to having it back in regular action again soon

Congratulations to the That's What I Call Science 🎙 team. Well deserved recognition of the amazing work that they do in raising the profile of a more diverse range of science stories and the people behind them. Big shout out in particular to Dr Niamh Chapman ☘️ for her tireless work and enthusiasm.

The near-earth commissioning phase of JUICE mission has finished. Everything is in order and the spacecraft started its way to Jupiter. Congratulations to Guifre Molera Calves for receiving the diploma as part of the commissioning operations.

This is a big challenge. Our current methods for tracking space objects both active and 'junk' worked adequately when globally launched about 100 satellites a year. We are now launching more than 1000 a year 🫤

We’re very excited to now have a full transmit and receive capability at two sites. One ideally placed to support polar orbiting satellites and one equatorial.
