This year's May Day Bank Holiday weekend is looking poor weather wise. The weather of this period in the past decade has been quite variable in Ireland but more poor ones than great ones.

2018 is the only one I'd call great though with a chest infection, I wasn't able to enjoy!

So April 2024 ends today and my opinion hasn't changed. It's still much the same. My least favourite April since 2017, probably worst since 2016.

At least the sunshine has improved to the point where it's still below average but not remarkable... 137.4 hrs - dullest since 2019.

For the UK as a whole, April 2024 is likely to come out as near average in temperature (relative to the recent 1991-2020 avg) in spite of a very mild first few weeks, exceptionally wet and cloudy.

The wettest April since 2012 and cloudiest since 1993 likely based on this.

Similarly with Ireland, England & Wales also having their wettest April since 2018. It could rise above when the final 3 days are included.

88.2mm to the 27th for 2024 whilst 2018 was 91.4mm.

If it goes above 91.4mm, it'll be the wettest April since 2012.

Nothing dramatic but yet another wetter than average month across Ireland for April 2024, the third consecutive one in a row. 8 of the last 10 have been wetter than average (Nov average and Jan relatively dry).

The wettest April since 2018 is likely but not exceptional.

Dublin is just a massive construction site at this point.
