New manuscript on trace gas oxidation in aerobic archaea out at Nature Communications. Much expanded from the preprint, we show atmospheric hydrogen oxidation by novel hydrogenases enhances survival and may facilitate dispersal at suboptimal temperatures. nature.com/articles/s4146… 1/2
Had to pull some of the cold weather gear back out this week, as Tess Hutchinson and I spent a few hours in the 4 degree room setting up the first experiments with our soil samples from Antarctica 🥶🥼❄️ Securing Antarctica's Environmental Future
Sharing our new manuscript in The ISME Journal led by Dr Tess Hutchinson and Perran Cook. By tracking how the carbon in glucose is broken down in samples and isolates, she definitely shows fermentation dominates in sands, anaerobic respiration in muds. academic.oup.com/ismej/article/…
Bunger Hills was previously known as Bunger Lakes; after exploring the area it’s easy to see why. Our lake samples collected during antarctica.gov.au DTC will help Securing Antarctica's Environmental Future & ANSTO researchers better understand the vulnerability of these indicators of environmental change
Terrific piece in The Age about the science that has been conducted as part of the Denman Terrestrial Campaign this summer.
SAEF scientists Richard Selwyn Jones & Laura Phillips share their experiences.
