Insect-eating bird population ‘drops by 40% in decade’. Terrifyingly obvious here in Somerset where sightings of house martins in particular are few and far between… ⁦Phoebe Weston⁩ ⁦BTO⁩ ⁦RSPB News⁩ ⁦Somerset Wildlife Trust⁩ theguardian.com/environment/ar…

Well what a day yesterday was for WCs.

United Utilities outed for dumping sewage into lake Windermere; again. Board members of Thames Water 💧 resigning and bill payers in Devon told to boil their water thanks to an outbreak of cryptosporidium.

Way to go water industry, way to go!

I'm the judge this year for the creative writing comp at the Festival of Nature, SO happy that I get to enjoy what are bound to be some beautiful pieces, and I'm going to be available to chat to as part of the prize, and do my best to give support to young people in nature writing🤎

Given none of us are going to live forever - and there’s a limit to how long we can be expected to suffer fools gladly - can our elected representatives please be allowed to start talking about Brexit and whether or not it’s working?

Apparently, it seems it's my fault now for not stopping this from happening. I'm not comfortable approaching 3 blokes on my own to raise this issue. I've emailed the council to ask why this happened. I'm not sure what else I was supposed to do? 🫠

Never forget, this bland, Pan Faced coward who ran away and then sneaked back in through the back door is the prick solely responsible for the absolute shit we're in. And he's swanning around the world on luxury jets at our expense.

Fascinated by the people in my mentions who are defending the idea of playing “shitting-yourself roulette” every time you drink tap water!

Devon farmer who made illegal slurry store with walls of farmyard manure. farminguk.com/news/devon-far… . Who would have predicted it would collapse causing a slurry flood some 20m wide in places, that contaminated a local drinking water supply. The penalty? 60 hours community work.

Goldfinch study, Watercolour, 260 x 360mm.
Fundamental to all my work is my childhood passion for the understanding of the natural world. To this day I never pass on the opportunity of studying the real thing - here an unfortunate Goldfinch road casualty. nature at its finest 😁

It’s National Pledge Day!
Here are mine:
1. Tougher jail sentences for those caught wearing rainbow lanyards.
2. Stop the Bikes
3. People born in or after 2009 will never be able to listen to wrap music.
4. Recruit 7,800 new moths.
5. Grow more concrete.
What are your pledges?

I find it sad that it's impossible to 'go viral' with a bird photo. 😔
For example, I've been posting my birds here for 9 years, thousands of my own images, and though I've built a large following, I've never had that one image that does 'out of the ordinary'.

Call me sad, but this photo brings me such joy. I hate fences. Almost obsessively. After 30 years, this is the last visually and physically intrusive fence removed from our farm. It’s a tiny piece of a much bigger jigsaw, but I feel better!

Well this was fun — lots of discussion of solitary trees / woodland, and the meanings we attach to them. Thank you Dr. Anna Burton (drannaburton.bsky.social) for a fascinating talk!

This is what empty vote chasing looks like. It is disgusting and makes me feel, yet again, ashamed to be British. We really have become the worst of us.
