This is a game changer for the club and community as a whole. It has been extremely difficult the last couple of months on our pitch. This move allows us to play the way we want to and acts as a base for training, video, rehab etc 🔵⚪️

Dominate your opponent without the ball: late & explosive in behind & begin your movement when your teammate’s head is up. For last line movements,go across the line & keep your shoulders facing the goal.Defenders have to turn & accelerate whilst you already have forward momentum

The space between FB/CB is being consistently targeted by the best teams. There are various ways of utilising that vertical run: (1) late and explosive from the outside (2) Combining 2v1 to get the FB ball watching (3) Occupying that space off the shoulders. Timing is key for all

Premier League players receive the ball, on average, once every seven movements they make. 7:1 movement practices are vital in developing players who can dominate their opponent without the ball to become the free player. The movements are identity and position specific. Example:

When the ball is moved wide for the 1v1 a key space to target with a vertical run is between CB & FB instead of support & recirculate. Vs low block, you go through or around. It should be principle based & not positional;FB wide AM/winger makes the run, winger wide FB underrun etc

1-If Jorginho opens up in the “traditionally coached” way (pivoting off the standing foot) he doesn’t play forward. By killing the ball dead & front foot “jumps”back away from the ball, it creates the space.2- TIMING of Mount’s movement to become the free player off the shoulder

So many players,at all levels, would benefit from a high level focus on improving their ability to be unpredictable receiving pressure behind. The element of disguise to shift the ball off the line if came from-first time-as late as possible-makes you incredibly press resistant.

Modern game demands the skillset of playing in 360degrees & being press resistant until a solution arrives. To outplay 1v1 you must first move them to the side-process begins with mastering pressure behind agility drags & cuts. Bergkamp looks “natural” here but it’s years of work

Consideration for the focus on “playing out” from GK: teams average 4 goal kicks per half compared to 25-40 actions where CB’s build without the GK closer to half line. “Building out” exercises should have a larger emphasis on creating the free player higher up; with even numbers

Cruyff breaks this down so simply, which he did with everything. The tactical complexities needed to achieve defending this way though are much more complex. He was so far ahead of his time.
