The #UMC bishops clarify that a mutual relationship with the Global Methodist Church starts with the GMC stopping telling our members that United Methodists are apostate.

That seems reasonable! But unlikely that the GMC will give up their only recruitment tactic!

Predictions were rampant from the #GMC and numerous evangelical groups about abrupt and drastic attendance dropoffs and memberships exodus.

I think the consensus in the #UMC is that #UMC GC 2020/24 went further in a progressive direction than many expected.

Do we see the same thing in the fall with the #GMC ? And if so, how much of it is a direct reaction to the UMC movement?

I honestly can't believe the amazing work that's been done. The last several GCs had conditioned me for disappointment

#UMCGC voted to extend sacramental authority to Deacons, allowing them to baptize and offer eucharist in their communities. Our ministerial orders are so, so weird. Passes at 65%.

And #UMC #Deacons can now preside over the #Sacraments without having to have explicit permission from their bishop.

It will be in the 'absence of an Elder'

What's interesting in all the comments on my #UMC #LGBTQ inclusion posts is the number of 'Theo bros' who will cite passage and verse for every sexual issue in scripture, but the instant you bring up economics they suddenly flip to 'freedom' and 'context'
