Epistemologically: what is art without art history? What is classical and arch conservation without anthropology? What is English Lit without Lang&linguistics, journalism and comp lit? How can Kent still call itself ‘the UK’s European university’ without modern languages?

[email protected] - help us out by flooding Kent’s VC with emails. Linguistics has been suffocated over years by university marketing strategy we have no control over. Despite everything we’ve produced the best students who have gone on to do PhDs at the best depts in the world.

Kent: disastrously cut into to 'avoid further disaster' only recently, and everyone could see further cuts coming: you can't uphold the same student numbers with reduced staff & reduced programmes.

What a bleak view of what universities could/should be.

Dealing with the horror by fixating on the grotesque use of the concept of “portfolio”.

My dudebros, a university is not an investment portfolio. You have an affirmative duty to maintain breath and depth of areas.

Another heartbreaking short-sighted move from a top university. Solidarity with friends and colleagues in Modern Languages/Comp Lit and all the other disciplines listed here. We can and must fight this in short term, and then we need The Labour Party to step up on University funding.
