The Utah Prescribed Fire Council conducted a workshop and field tour last week in Carbon County. Representatives from multiple institutions presented research on fuel treatments and prescribed fire. The second day involved a tour of the 2021 Bear Fire's aftermath in Price Canyon.

Over the weekend, our Southwest Area staff held their wildland engine training in Beaver County with local departments to simulate wildfire response. This year's simulation was based on the 2020 Minersville Fire. For more pictures 👉 buff.ly/4bEJ5vh

Today, we joined the Ascent Acadamy Career on Wheels Day in Farmington. Our Salt Lake and Davis County Fire Wardens talked with the students about what it takes to be a wildland firefighter and the skills needed to be successful at the job.

Thank you to Murray City, UT for inviting us to celebrate Arbor Day and Earth Day with them. Murray was awarded their 47th consecutive Tree City USA designation, the longest-running Tree City in Utah. The State Forester was on hand to help award Murray City with this honor.

The Moab office completed its Pack Test today! This test consists of a 3-mile walk, with 45lbs of weight, in 45 minutes. This is typically done on the high school track, but they had to adjust this morning and complete the test on the river path, which provided great views!

We celebrated with Ogden City as they planted trees at Orchard Park. Ogden City marks its 40th year as a Tree City, the third longest in Utah.

FFSL river rangers patrolled 105 miles of the Green River in Uintah County, cleaning up nearly 5 gallons of rusty nails and broken glass under the sand. Remember to keep fires contained in a firepan to ensure safety for all visitors.

Weather permitting, Forestry, Fire and State Lands #utahffsl (April 12) plans to burn phragmites at Ogden Bay WMA. Smoke from this burn will be highly visible to Box Elder, Salt Lake, Davis, and Weber County residents. #ffslkw

On Saturday, Southeast area staff conducted an Engine Workshop for a rural volunteer fire department in Castle Valley. Volunteers learned about mobile attack, structure triage, and dispatch communications. Local and volunteer departments are crucial in managing wildland fires.

Drone footage captured earlier today of the #PintailFlatRx located in Ogden Bay WMA. An objective is to mitigate the invasive plant species phragmites. Due to unfavorable weather conditions, the burn objectives were not met. Plans for ignitions next week weather permitting.
