The USC Academic Senate voted today to censure president Carol Folt and provost Andrew Guzman with a vote of 21 against 7 and 6 abstentions.

My colleagues Zain Khan persistence and courage is so admirable. But we wouldn't have to do this kind of chase down if USC Carol Folt answered questions, responded to requests to comment or spoke to us at all USC Annenberg Media

Many USC faculty members from across the campus and representing many different schools gathered this afternoon to voice our strong objections to the administration’s decision to impose punitive interim suspensions on student protesters after subjecting them to LAPD violence.

In about a week, @usc Carol Folt has gone from absent to inept to cruel.

The behaviors of President Folt & this administration are punitive, mean, & abhorrent—diametrically opposed to treating students with care, concern, and compassion. They are making a mockery of the of the “Trojan Family” trope they love to tout. You don’t treat family like this!?

Thread on LAPD activity: It was dark and scary, especially for student journalists who were people of color. Our fear of coming face to face with underlying tones of racism was reiterated. Yet all of us stayed because of how important it was to show the world what was going on.

When universities work, it’s not b/c of presidential statements, vapid branding, police raids, McKinsey PowerPoints.

It’s b/c people who care *patiently* convene in good faith, to build, learn, change, de-escalate—& do no harm.

Some leaders know this.

Those who don’t, go now.
