Mid 2022 I & others said AI will be writing assignments in a few months. Nobody listened and we got reactive/punitive responses when we were ‘surprised’ by ChatGPT.

Now deepfakes are coming. They will be used in online vivas & remote proctored exams. Will we be surprised again?

If you’re in charge of a physics/science department (or in charge of a school) then you *have* to look after your physics teachers.

If you don’t retain them, then recruitment & replacing them will be very very hard.

It's not a coincidence that we have academic colleagues telling us a flat out 'no' when we state reasonable adjustments. Or that I've been subject to the 'there are too many disabled students at uni' argument so often in recent months. This rhetoric is causing real damage.

Love this theory by official that the reason ChatGPT uses words like 'delve' a lot is that OpenAI outsource a lot of their RLHF annotation to workers in Nigeria, and Nigerian formal English has a slightly different vocabulary theguardian.com/technology/202…
