GW must end student suspensions, drop criminal and disciplinary charges, and meet with students and faculty in good faith to discuss their reasonable demands. The status quo is unjust, inconsistent with the university's own values, and intolerable.

We are faculty at GW.
We observed the encampments.
They were peaceful.
No student should be suspended or expelled for participating in them.
Draconian punishment for free expression goes against the entire ethos of a university education.

Can anyone imagine this lack of action by cops + prosecutors in any context in which a person supporting any progressive cause had been identified committing such crimes? A throughline in U.S. history is tolerance of right-wing violence against those seeking social change.
