Lots of people asking about Scotland's climate targets today (understandably).

We won't comment before we see what the Scottish Government is planning, but our position on the 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿2030 target is already very clear. It was in two key bits of advice, published already.

Apologies for the many typos -- but this is monumental. The Court seems to have spelled out a clear way forward for climate cases -- and confirmed that climate change is very much an ECHR issue. Now to read the judgments!

States have an obligation to adopt measures to mitigate climate change. there were 'critical lacunae' in the Swiss process of putting in place a regulartory framework: failure to quantify, through a carbon budget or otherwise, national GHG emissions limitations...

Unanimously, the court holds that it's not necessary to examine the applicability of Art. 2 ECHR. 16-1: there's a violation of Article 8 ECHR!!!!!!!

Today, the Court of Appeal considers the scope of the Welsh Ministers’ power to approve coal mining operations under a postponed licence at Aberpergwm Colliery in Neath, in an appeal on retrospectivity and Art. 1 First Protocol.

This latest move, if confirmed, would eviscerate UK govt plans to get homes off gas, which, lest we forget, is overwhelming cause of our two-year cost of living crisis
