Europe wasted years of low interest rates by refusing to invest massively in the net-zero transition. Now we need much better policies.
Public investment is key but there's money in the financial system and we can have the policies to channel that money. politico.eu/article/europe…

Higher interest rates hit low-carbon energy and green tech hardest due to higher capex intensity (vs. opex) and debt as a % of total capital. O&G and mining giants, with stronger balance sheets recently , are less exposed to rising borrowing costs.

“Once we've changed over the entire vehicle fleet to electric, we’ll only have to replace a couple % each year that’s lost in the process,” says Campbell. “It will become obvious to everyone that it doesn't make sense to dig out of the ground anymore” 7/ bloomberg.com/news/features/…

Methanol and ammonia could replace oil for the global shipping industry. This report details how, including how ports can become first-movers.

Also great to see how this technology is going from 'pie in the sky' to 'how do we get there'.

Short thread on the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation , which brings a huge amount of heat to the northern Atlantic.
If it slows, the region west of Britain cools. And the Gulf Stream moves closer to the US coast, causing warming there.
Both are already happening,

Good morning with good news: There is a 70% chance global CO2 emissions start falling in 2024 says research by Climate Analytics. Wind & solar growth could peak coal in 2023 and gas in 2024. EV growth may cause peak oil in 2025.

50 countries peaked total GHG emissions by 2015!

Good morning with good news: Europe's largest solar farm (605 MW) is now operating. Built on coal mine land, the German plant pushes to 2nd a Spanish 500 MW PV plant.

Solar generated 13.6% of Germany's March 2024 electricity, up from 8.5% in March 2023.

Sometimes, people try to argue that the global warming signal is an artifact of the bias adjustments & other quality control processes applied to weather station data.

That is easily shown to be untrue. The net effect of the adjustments on the global land average is very small.

How do you create fake news / conspiracy theory in 2 simple steps:

1) Mainstream politician (Minister) agitates spectre of draconian measure no one proposed

2) Mainstream media (best-selling newspaper) reports it as fact, with panicked tone
