Time flies… and so do our drones ✈️

The team in Northampton have been hard at work setting up a rotation trial researching new systems to support farm profitability!

It’s all part of a joint project with GRDC West, check out some highlights from the past year 🌾

Grassroots Agronomy Greg, this is on a Case 8250. A smaller capacity machine or machines with inherent rotor loss, may have increased advantages.
Here’s a few points that I’ve found.

Based on 2023 we estimated ~9mm in early Apr & ~5mm mid-Apr on mallee sand (no repellence etc) was enough to maintain water potentials for 50% canola emergence. These rules worked again, shame it hasn't happened in reality this time. Here's hoping we all get 5mm++ soon GRDC

We are excited to have 50 trial sites this year across the Wimmera, Mallee and North Central regions, and it's all hands on deck to get seed into the ground! Even our CEO Fiona couldn't resist getting amongst the action 💪

As well as harvesting plots with the header, we are also harvesting pure seed and shortrows by hand. These will be dried down and individually threshed later.

Single disc seeding systems proving their value in 2024. Dry on top but with moisture below, early April sown canola is emerging evenly. Accurate seed placement across a range of soils & stubble types.

Proud moment sowing hallmark lentils with new acid tolerant rhizobium. Our team brought this to nsw, GRDC North backed us with a scoping study, then engaged a larger team inc NSW DPI Agronomy to bring to market. Awesome outcome for growers 👏👍

Pulses can be influenced by a range of factors that can affect how well your crop will establish. Things such as seeding rate, soil temperature, seed quality, moisture, handling, and fertilizer placement/rate all play a part on the success of the crop: ow.ly/OKJp50RmmCr

For what it is worth I have been experimenting with a simple index over past two years to support intuition with dry seeding decisions. Idea is to update with new experiences. I’ve certainly found it useful to straighten up the thoughts
