after setting up a peaceful encampment this morning, students are being violently arrested at Emory University. they are being held down and tased. tear-gassed. shot at with rubber bullets.

Mousa Shawwa worked for Anera, a U.S. aid group, for over a decade. His wife Duaa was grateful his job helped Gazans while keeping their family safe. But Mousa and their son were killed in an Israeli strike on a house that, emails show, was repeatedly registered with the I.D.F.

Emerson has no outdoor space. It’s a small, vertical, urban campus. They set up the encampment in a dead-end alleyway less than one block long - “on” campus but public property. The city used a 2023 anti-homeless ordinance to make arrests tonight.

When I say this story floored me, I mean it *floored* me. This is a level of courage and resistance almost beyond my imagination.

I've seen no credible reporting of actual antisemitic incidents at the UT Austin protest. What I can tell you is that I've reported on numerous neo-Nazi events and Greg Abbott never once tried to put any of them in jail.
