This is a terrible indictment of a broken funding model & a terrible government. It is destructive & damaging in every sense - to people, to institutions, to an economy that desperately needs a well funded & functioning HE sector. We need a strong sector wide response from UCU

UCU members whose subs enable this 18k salary increase to pay damages in a libel case have a right to know how this pay award was decided & to have clarity about exactly how the donation to the FF is made. We just need & are owed transparency & accountability

We have to be unequivocal that workplace racism and misogynoir are unacceptable - we need urgent change. As a minimum this will require a proper, deep review to both understand how we got here, and to really address and fundamentally change this climate of fear for staff in UCU.

This is a really upsetting but important read, and very courageous of #UCU staff to speak out. We need our union to be intent *on listening*, to model how we push for all employers to behave, and this will mean serious, sustained work to rebuild trust with our staff and members.

On 17 January our employer said they'd respond to our urgent branch equality motions, and staff would be emailed shortly on the Listening Circles. We asked that they detail by 31 Jan how the Listening Circles findings would address the Pay Gap report.
