Someone asked me what was the first thing I did, it was this page of Venom with lines by Fco Herrera and inks by Lobo Cuevas. I was assisting Edgar Delgado on his color duties 🥰

Today marks my 20th anniversary coloring comics.

Let’s party!!!

Coloring comics is just beautiful, it’s a window to the artist’s construction, to their background, sensitivities and personality.
We are all standing in the shoulders of giants, and I am nothing but thankful to those who worked doing color and made this an amazing profession 🖤

Doing comics is hard but some people make it look easy, Laura Martin has done everything that can be done in the industry and she keeps evolving and adapting to the media, technique and power are her skills but being an inspiration to us, her readers, is her mutant power.

Then I found a book named Young Avengers. Justin Ponsor is one of the MASTERS that brought coloring to the modern era, his approach was cinematic and narrative driven, all his energy went to tell a story in the purest form. We are stupid lucky to have shared this world with him.

When I started coloring comics I had an idea of how to do it, but the person who taught me the ropes of this beautiful craft was Edgar Delgado, and I am tremendously lucky for that, he’s one of the best! His color sensitivity is unique and he’s been a role model since then.

Years later a book named Battlechasers came out and my brain exploded with how Liquid! approached coloring, those guys created new languages for rendering and environments, the most avant-garde stuff I had seen at the moment.
Liquid! are fantastic!!!

Ay some point my teen hands found the work of Brian Haberlin while reading some Cyberforce, the man was painting and rendering like I’ve never seen before, it wasn’t anymore about flat colors like the old days. Brian is awesome to me.

The first time I saw Steve Oliff’s work was in Spawn 01, I was 12 and had no idea that computers were capable of such amazing color. We owe so much to Steve and his inclusion of new tools for colorists.

When I grabbed my first X-Men comic as a kid Joe Rosas was there in color duty, doing amazing things and creating a language that would permeate up to these days.
You have no idea of how much I admire that man.

How absolutely much I admire Paul Mounts, back in the very early 90s he made me wonder about the people who colored comics.
