Our city is built at the confluence of five rivers, and is only a stone's throw from the beautiful Peak District.

But we treat nature with contempt in Sheffield.

A thread 🧵👇

I wrote a little bit about anti-intellectualism in British politics here, but at some point I’d like to update it with more explanation of how this became part of a culture war of deriding all arts and humanities academic research as simply “woke” nonsense

The record amount of sewage entering our rivers last year is not an accident. Its a result of water companies stealing money that should have been spent on infrastructure & giving it to shareholders for 30 years, whilst government & regulators do nothing.

Much misinformation out there regarding tree pruning, especially around the Banksy cherry.
I can clearly see wounds and cracks on the branches. This was the right decision. When people don't understand how tree risk is managed, tree officers take the brunt of the public backlash.

Lord Bathurst says the park 'comes at a cost rather than any form of revenue' (assuming the purpose of a park is to generate revenue).

But he forgot to mention a few things.

Who really paid for Cirencester park? 🧵
