For #BlackHistoryMonth check out Mel King Square in the #SouthEnd .
In 74’, King created a law to protect the rights of people to use vacant public land for farming and gardening. This led to the establishment of some of the first #communitygardens in #Boston .
Today at #hackingthearchive we began with words of wisdom from Anna Mae Cole, reminding us to live with “kindness, care, and concern” and we continue our day inspired by the records of activists across Boston, including Mel King.
Celebrating #BlackHistoryMonth with a spotlight on Honorable Mel King, a Boston icon. From teacher to activist, his advocacy for affordable housing and community empowerment shaped our history. As we celebrate, we honor King's legacy. #WeArePeabody #MelKingLegacy
