Thanks Munira Wilson MP 🇺🇦 Beth Winter MP Sharon Hodgson MP and other Parliamentarians who voiced their support for quality school food & expanding this week🙌

All school children should have what they need to thrive, that includes a good, nutritious meal at lunch.

Time & again, the answer comes back to schools. We've got 190 days a year in schools to normalise a way of eating, to 'de-classify' food, to teach skills and impart love for food. It would be expensive to do well everywhere and for everyone, for sure. But can we afford not to?

Fascinating ep. Our, very 🇬🇧, class based gate-keeping of food enrages me, as Sheila says its literally making people with the least, the sickest. At ChefsinSchools we try not to talk about 'healthy' food precisely because the word is so class loaded.

Child Poverty Action Group 'Extending free school meals is one way that we can restore the support network around our young people. That is why the Liberal Democrats would extend free school meals, beginning with every child in poverty, to ensure children have the energy to learn.' 6/6 🧵

We agree with Sharon Hodgson MP that achieving is a journey - ensuring meals for all children in poverty, implementing auto-enrolment are stepping stones towards a universal vision. In our research 77% of parents back a phased expansion of healthy meals for all.

V true. Heads I've spoken to worried first and most by the impact of hunger on pupils, but also the senior leadership time and energy going into sorting out adhoc food & financial support. Making decisions like music teachers vs funding free meals for kids 'not quite poor enough'

'It doesn't matter that you've done a fantastic cost-benefit analysis if at the end he says 'that doesn't sound like an issue I care about.''

800,000+ kids living in poverty are missing out on a hot meal at school. I wish all politicians would be like Sharon Hodgson MP & speak for the views of their constituents, who say they want this issue resolved. Hope our excellent local MP Harriet Harman will support this debate

Giant business, buys massive business, to create new humongous business. Gobble gobble gobble. Profitable businesses including in this new beast: Chartwells and Pabulum, education food specialists + FoodBuy procurement arm.

I love everything about this - looks delicious, familiar enough to the kids but with colour and variety, all scratch made, by an inspired school chef. Brilliant work.

Andy Jolley Amandine Alexandre (She/Her) When the food is good, as in schools working w’ ChefsinSchools , for example, take up is v high. But ingredients, cooking & presentation have to be excellent. Just because a meal is free doesn’t make it good/more appealing. But free school meals in primary could be game changer
