Legislators can reduce the pressure of property taxes on every taxpayer by focusing on getting a budget passed with the kind of school funding increase sent to the Senate by the PA House. - Donna Cooper of Children First

Each of the school districts I represent would save over $1 million by ending cyber charter overpayments in . That's money that would go back to taxpayers and educating students - not to cyber charter fund balances, sports tickets, or event sponsorships.

Call Governor Josh Shapiro 717-787-2500 & tell him NO on private vouchers. Call. Right. Now.
Lifeline vouchers will send ~ $100 M to private & religious schools, robbing public school students.

Novel theory not backed up by any data. School district enrollment is unchanged in 2023 over 2022 while brick and mortar charters lost 2.2% of their students. Maybe home schoolers left charters?

Thank you Rep. Joanna McClinton for standing for public education & against private school vouchers. ALL of our children deserve a quality education, not just the few who would qualify for Lifeline Scholarships.

Do you mean why are parents leaving brick & mortar charter schools?

Change in enrollment SY2023 vs SY2022:
Brick & mortar CS: -2.2%
Cyber CS: 1.2%
School District: 0.0% (no change)

'We don’t need any more opportunity to drain money away from public schools with public schools having overcrowded classrooms, outdated textbooks, many don’t have school nurses, don’t have libraries, what in God’s name are we talking about,' Cooper said.

As a comprehensive cyber bill, also improves our charter law in places to help charter students - districts providing special ed transportation, providing facilities access for testing, an amendment process to change & improve school charters, and more.

Even more at risk of closing? Cyber charters have stockpiled a quarter billion dollars -- up over 1000% in just 3 years. That cushion is too big - stop overpaying cybers.

Today the Education Committee took a significant step toward fixing our broken charter school law by passing , which will modernize our approach to cyber charter schools with transparency, accountability for taxpayer dollars, and data-backed funding reforms.

Agree, more needs to be done to ensure student success in both charter and district-run schools. Charter were supposed to do better for these students but have not lived up to their promise.
