I agree with Senator Andrew Bragg about super but don't understand his opposition to housing targets.
My impression was that high targets, enforced with 'strict time limits and sanctions,' was the NSW Liberal Party policy.
If he thinks the 1.2m target is too high, he should say that.

Planners do not value giving people a choice.
'Next time you hear catching an Uber should be made legal consider cases where that is legal and still not done'.
Some people choose not to build -- that is no reason to prevent the hundreds of thousands who do want to build.

NEW POST: What's the benefit-cost ratio of U.S. social housing? And why are officials and researchers so amazingly uncurious about measuring costs?

Simon Kennedy, new Liberal MP for Cook (south of Botany Bay) calls for Federal infrastructure, like extension of the F6 freeway, being explicitly tied to new housing.
This is an obvious way the Federal govt could help alleviate the housing shortage.

Fun fact, the FAA reviews this periodically and always concludes that, by raising the cost of flying and making more people drive, it would likely increase child deaths. vox.com/future-perfect…

Rent controls repeatedly backfire; hurting those they are meant to help.
When rentals are rationed, landlords choose “safe” tenants. Tenants with difficulties or troubled backgrounds miss out.
An excellent story on Swedish rent control from The Economist

Uninformed critics say the new housing targets are 'unenforceable'.
Incorrect.
Section 9.6 of the EP&A Act authorises the Minister to replace a recalcitrant council. Rob Stokes threatened to do this to Ku-ring-gai in 2020 so the council folded.

Lefties who hate YIMBYs often complain about the lack of focus on public housing. But YIMBY pressure makes it easier to build all kinds of housing.

Outside of a few greens dominated areas most NIMBYs hate public and community housing even more than private.

.Sydney YIMBY has a very good blog post, describing the new housing targets as:
a) a really big deal; and
b) a huge advocacy win.
I agree on both.
