What movie was so bad you couldn’t finish it?

My pick “Dashcam” (2021). I RARELY give up on movies, so the fact that I gave up 20 minutes in (of only a 76 minute runtime) on this one speaks volumes. The main character couldn’t have been anymore obnoxious & nerve-grating.

I read the first reaction I’ve seen to “The Strangers: Chapter One”, and without spoilers or details, the sum of it is that the first act feels like a bland C/W drama, but once the action starts it gets incredibly tense and extremely gory. Overall it was a favorable review.

From what I just read, Bryan Fuller & Kevin Williamson were going to have an episode of “Crystal Lake” that would’ve been an hour long chase scene. That by itself sounds like it would’ve been interesting to see how they would’ve pulled that off.

in 1988, William Lustig’s “Maniac Cop” was released. Not to be confused with “Psycho Cop” or “Crazy Ass Cop” (okay…I made up that last one). What are your thoughts on this film that stars two horror movie legends (Bruce Campbell & Tom Atkins)?

Share a fun Horror movie:

My pick: “Night of the Creeps” (1986) is to me the very definition of a “fun horror movie.” A tightly paced film with witty dialogue, and every frame of it infused with a love for the genre. Oh, and Tom Atkins! He’s a scene stealer in this.

Apparently I had a typo in my previous version of this “Cobra” inspired poster I made that I didn’t catch that my OCD self needed to correct. 😩

in 1988, the world was introduced to Kane Hodder as Jason when John Carl Buechler’s “Friday the 13th Part VII” opened in theaters. What are your thoughts on the seventh installment of the series?

The way I see it, Blumhouse should’ve transformed yet another 80’s comedy into a horror comedy following “Halloween Kills”, by remaking the Jon Cryer film, “Hiding Out” (1987). With Laurie & the police looking for him, Michael could lay low by posing as a high schooler. 😂

Is there a film you enjoyed as a child, but when you watched it as an adult, you didn't care for it?

My pick: when you’re in junior high and you see a movie with Bigfoot yanking a biker’s penis off or whipping people with their own intestines…that’s pretty gnarly stuff. Only…

Ugh! In addition to losing Roger Corman, we also lost actress/stuntwoman Susie Backlinie (1946 - 2024), who famously played Christie Watkins in the iconic opening scene of “Jaws”.

Watched “Come True” (2020) based on a recommendation by Daniel Hood (whom you should follow if you’re not already). I could see this being a very divisive film, but I adored everything about it. From the dream-like quality of the entire film to its amazing, ambient score.

Most disturbing movie of all time?

My pick: “Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom” (1975). I’ve seen this movie only once, yet every frame of it is burnt into my brain. Perhaps the most damning film about the darker nature of humanity.

Saddened to hear of the loss of B-movie filmmaker and icon, Roger Corman (1926 - 2024). A true pioneer in the industry who also helped many great filmmakers (too numerous to list) get their start.

My only complaint is that “KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park” (1978) didn’t open the door to a slew of other “KISS Meets…” crossover movies. Think of all the great cinema we missed out on!

What recent horror movie surprised you the most in a good way?

My pick: “The Passenger” (2023). A tense road thriller featuring great performances by its two leads (especially Kyle Gallner, who is sensational in this). One of my favorites film of 2023.

Watched the Irish found footage film, “Crone Wood” (2016), which is a blend of “Blair Witch Project” & “The Wicker Man”. I could nitpick a lot of the bad character decisions throughout, but what hurt it the most for me is the lead actor showing no range of emotion. If someone…
