Early stroll. The sky has changed its colour scheme again. A pigeon on a streetlight like a statue on a thin plinth. Late April frost scribbled on a car windscreen. A dropped tissue assumes the shape of a duck. A weighty moon hangs over the valley.

Early stroll. Rain knocks on the door of my cagoule hood. Wet green bins glow like metal. Morning light seems unsure of itself. A smashed bottle waits in a bus shelter for a bus with broken windows. A pigeon tries to unzip the clouds.

On the anniversary of the Kinder Scout trespass, I want to recognise all those who have fought for public access and public rights of way in history and to this day.
At places like Winter Hill, Latrigg, Knole, Kinder, Dartmoor, and thousands of other places across the country.

Early stroll. Light is the message, the sky is the bottle. A nest punctuates a tall tree. Two white vans like misshaped sugar cubes on wheels. A barbed wire worm in a hedgerow. That snail is slowing time right down.
