Hind ❤️
Those phone recordings will haunt me forever. I don’t even have the words for how absolutely heart shattering they were. Her terrified little voice. It should haunt us all forever for allowing this to happen.

The EU would literally rather give billions to a country to capture and torture people than to spend that money tackling climate change or supporting peace

The assault on Rafah is Israel's most devastating attack on civilians yet. My colleague on the ground has described the terror of it. This is intolerable and indefensible. 1m cannot evacuate. Israel is in absolute breach of international humanitarian law.

From a values perspective, if you want a world at peace then triggering defence and security values increases the chances of conflict happening. Values shape behaviour. What does Ireland wish to see? More conflict? More peace?

So many voices in the media and politics misunderstand or misrepresent migration and migrants. We need to push back with analysis, evidence, empathy and understanding.

Eating less red meat is really important as a part of addressing climate justice. The Irish Farmers' Association and agriculture generally must embrace more regenerative practices. Industrial Agriculture has to change. We need to stop subsidising the collapse of our planets climate stability.

There are decades where nothing happens and weeks where decades happen. 5 days is all it took for Trinity College Dublin to commit to fully divesting from Israel. A testament to grassroots student-staff power.

But what blew me away was the level of personal anguish among the experts who have dedicated their lives to climate research. Many used words like hopeless, broken, infuriated, scared, overwhelmed.

Horrific heat wave all across Asia. Lethal conditions caused by oil, gas and coal. We have to choose: we can continue building new fossil fuel projects and watch as millions suffer and die. Or we can stop, actually begin a just transition, and build a safer world.

On Wednesday, the UK passed the Rwanda deportation bill: a racist law, that allows the UK to deport asylum seekers upon entry to Rwanda - before their asylum application is processed, no matter their nationality. A return to the UK is not possible even when asylum is granted.

Important contribution by Fintan Sheerin. Universities across Ireland need to do much more than 'hold space'. That time has passed. universitytimes.ie/2024/04/silenc…
