This minister was Motiur Rahman Nizami of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), a partner in the then BNP-led alliance govt. Interestingly both BB and his leader Sk. Abdur Rahman were former members of ICS, the student's wing of JI. Nizami was later tried & hanged for crimes during the 1971 war.

* Fighting started in March 1971. Months of extensive fighting exhausted troops.

* PAF had 1 squadron and IAF had 7. Moreover PAF had only one airbase which ws rendered unusable in beginning
