The 'boiler ash heath' at Colliers Moss Common is an interesting place: heathy open vegetation on a great mound of industrial waste in St. Helens. Plants include lots of Calluna, Potentilla reptans, Pilosella officinarum, Aira praecox, and Luzula congesta, among calcicole bryos.

Some Aotearoa NZ bryos: Chandonanthus squarrosus, Schistochila appendiculata (longest liverwort in the world) & I think Lepidozia filamentosa from submontane temperate rainforest then some drapes of Weymouthia cochlearifolia from old-growth podocarp rainforest.

This particular species, Thylacodes squamigerus (scaled wormsnail), is often found in CA on rocks/shells/pilings as individuals. Their larvae tend to settle on bryozoans (all individuals we found were on various species of bryos including Watersipora and Celleporaria) 😊

I can confirm that the rumours are true and I will in fact be standing again to be the Biosciences PhD student representative at the end of May. Everyone can calm down now.

Enjoyable combined Sussex Botanical Recording Society & BBSBryology SE group meeting at National Trust Nap Wood, East Sussex. Here are 3 new-to-me mosses seen yesterday. Cratoneuron filicinum; Homalia trichomanoides; Plagiothecium denticulatum. BSS local groups are the best way to learn about bryos
