Another fearsome thistle for #wildflowerhour - the Cotton Thistle. It has cottony white hairs on its leaves and stems, and archeological evidence suggests it has been present in Britain since the Iron Age. Very tall plants, like this one (c. 2.5m high) are recent garden escapes.
