Just realized that I did not share any pictures of the incredible bust exhibited at the Getty .

This was an incredible piece to see. There were other items from that I will post, but this bust of was just amazing.

One of few Romano-Egyptian mummy portraits still with its original mummy and shroud. The portrait of Herakleides blends Egyptian, Ptolemaic Greek, and Roman artistic styles. Look at the painterly cross-hatching on the skin (cold encaustic technique?). 1/

Really unique Gallo-Roman bronze situla - a pail (missing its handle) - featuring strips of tin with cut-out designs. On it reclines in a chariot, pulled by panthers. This situla imitates a Greek kalanthos, a basket used to harvest grapes. ๐Ÿ‡

This grotesque fella is a bronze balsamarium (oil jar) in the shape of a boxerโ€™s head. Note the broken, swollen nose, fat lips, and broken teeth. Those teeth - and his eyes - were inlaid with silver, and a handle was attached to those holes on his cap. 1/

I love the humble terracotta lamp. Mass-produced, humble, with so many interesting variations and artistic expressions. Here we see a bust of the beardy god Mars, wearing a cuirass and crested helmet, with an arrow behind him.

N. Africa, 1st-4th c. CE

This tempera-on-linen mummy shroud was created during the Roman era in Egypt. He appears to be on the cusp of adulthood, given the wispy facial hair. The boy has a beautiful wreath on his head, and the bird on his shoulder may represent Horus or Harpocrates.

This portrait of Ptolemy IX of Egypt is a prime example of iconoclasm. In Egypt, statues were worshipped and offerings of food and wine were โ€˜consumedโ€™. By defacing the eyes, nose, and mouth, he was effectively blinded, could not breathe, could not eat.
