Spring means heading out to Stora Karlsö, 7 Km west of Gotland - and the cave Stora Förvar (the Large Storage) which held deposits (~4 m thick) from more than 9000 years. Mesolithic seal hunters, Bronze-age casters and medieval sailors all evidently used it.

We found this long, slender flint blade - snapped and so once longer still - on a ridge overlooking the long-lost lake of Skipsea Bail Mere. It is early - Early Mesolithic, perhaps earlier - and a hunter-gatherer life is folded into it.
