Xichangzhen in Hepu is an important wintering grounds for #SpoonbilledSandpipers in southern #China . There is a lot of #oyster farming. Far from the city, there is little human disturbance. Seagrass & benthos are relatively abundant, but only small-sized #shorebirds are common.

Western Leizhou Peninsula was great surprise! With all its benthos & birds, with mangroves & seagrass beds but no shellfish aquaculture or uncontrolled harvesting, this is by far the most intact wintering site for #shorebirds encountered in mainland China. It may need protection!
