On 5 February 2024, the RNLB Helen Comrie’s crew responded to a man overboard incident near Flotta, which fortunately concluded with the casualty's safe recovery. During their return, the crew encountered a humpback whale in Scapa Flow.

Today, the engineer who visited Orkney, expecting to carry out scheduled maintenance on our lifting equipment, wasnt able to get to Hoy due to wind. But, If the engineer can’t come to Longhope RNLI, then Longhope RNLI will go to him. And that’s what we did 😊

After undergoing a period of routine maintenance in Inverness, the RNLB Helen Comrie was off duty, and en route to Longhope when it spotted a capsized dinghy and stopped to provide support. #24/7/365

3 years ago today, the club ended a 20 year wait for silverware by beating Ellwood Res in the Cup Final.

It’s been another snowy day here in Longhope ☃️🥶

RNLB Helen Comrie returns to Longhope after responding to HM Coastguard tasking for a windsurfer in distress. Enjoy the sea but, as with this lucky windsurfer, always carry a means of contacting in an emergency. 999 and ask for Coastguard

Today marks 55 years since the Longhope Lifeboat Disaster that saw the entire eight man crew lost, whilst attempting to save the lives of others . RIP

Amateur photographer and Longhope lifeboat volunteer crew member, Alan Mackinnon, has raised £400 for the RNLI, through calendar sales featuring his photographs of the local area.

Local resident and business owner, Emily Smith, has raised £850 for the RNLI, by hosting a fundraising event in her restaurant on the island of Hoy, Orkney.

🍎 Cider Sunday 🍎

Today's highlight is a dry cider by Longhope producers Just Pressed. Astro is a nicely carbonated 4.8% cider. It's lively and refreshing with a crisp finish. Lovely on a sunny afternoon!

Last week the children of North Walls Primary school celebrated Mental Health Awareness week by carrying out random acts of kindness; baking chocolate chip cookies for the Longhope volunteer lifeboat crew. After all, you can’t save lives at sea on an empty stomach! 😍

長い間の目標ルートだったので今回登れて非常に嬉しい。当日は夜明け前4:30行動開始。日の出と同時にGO UPし16:30完登。その後BCを撤収し20:30下山。強風と寒さもあって非常に疲れた。

RNLB Helen Comrie 16-05 arrived into service in Longhope on 14 October 2006. She’s a Tamar class lifeboat,
fully waterproof and self-righting, and can travel at speeds up to 25knots. Perfect for the turbulent waters of the Pentland Firth.

On 24 March 2024, a service of thanksgiving was held, in St Magnus Cathedral, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the RNLI. Volunteers from Longhope attended what was a beautiful service.
