Itโ€™s that short, but magical time of year when x-country crust skiing is prime. For it to form, sun & warm temps soften the snow surface. Cold night temps set up a thick crust allowing one to ski in most every direction. Kinda thin on the mudflats this AM. Off to T-Pass on Tue

๐ŸŒธHappy International Day for Biological Diversity! ๐ŸฆMeet my new friend from the OCT National Wetland โ€” the common sandpiper. It has been searching for lunch on the mudflats. In just a short time, it has already plucked several earthworms from the mud.๐Ÿ‘€ What impressive

This area used to be full of mangroves.

Now San Miguel Corporation is building an airport on top of mangroves, mudflats and productive fishing grounds.

Don't be fooled. SMC destroyed our environment!

Thrilled to spot a Solitary Sandpiper plying the mudflats along Central Park's Pool early this morning. Incredible to think that this bird may have flown from Argentina and stopped here on the way to its breeding grounds in Canada! (see map below). ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰

The crisp surface of the mudflats was deceiving. It had rained the night before, and this hard layer was barely 2mm thick. It was like quicksand.

It sucked the Merrill Moabs off my feet ๐Ÿ˜‚
