This male Soprano Pipistrelle Bat was found indoors today & dropped off with me to look after. Hopefully he’ll not be in care long & be released quickly. However that won’t be happening until current stormy weather has passed over.
He knew exactly what to do with a mealworm!

Whilst unpacking my car last night I saw this Pipistrelle hunting above the drive.

(Put your volume to 50% to hear the clicks not the hiss).

I love being buzzed by the neighborhood Pipistrelle bars out on their evening rounds. Really hope that out garden provides rich pickings, with moth friendly planting and the lawn left long and flowery πŸ¦‡ 🌸

Another little pipistrelle, this one alive but again no sign of injury, just grounded. I've given him a drink & will see if he'll fly at dusk.

Parkwood Springs did us proud on International Dawn Chorus Day today.

Thank you so much to John and Anne Robinson from Sheffield RSPB who introduced our 26 strong party to 25 bird species (plus pipistrelle bats and rabbits)

Walk in the Baggot Estate, . A semi-natural woodland park. Listen to the Bat calls that are pitched at too high a frequency for humans to hear naturally but they can be heard or recorded using a bat detector. This is a common pipistrelle bat

Our final talk today is on the NNBG Nathusius' pipistrelle work. Maternity roosts are usually found in fairly ordinary buildings! Many of the maternity roosts are mixed species making them hard to count.

Fly safely little bat! Next stop could well be Netherlands or Belgium. Another tag deployed on a female Nathusius' pipistrelle, tracking migration from England to breeding grounds in continental Europe. Norfolk & Norwich Bat Group Bat Conservation Trust University of Sussex BatLife Europe

In our garden both Holly Blue and Small Tortoiseshell graced our Forget-Me-Nots here in a sunny and blustery Colchester. Both FFY. Plus a nocturnal Hedgehog on camera trap. And sun bathing Slow Worm. And a presumed Pipistrelle sp emerging from our broken porch tiles in eve.
