Mai Mahiu Road Closed

Govt announces the closure of Mai Mahiu - Narok Road following sudden siltation and heavy debris deposited on a section stretching over a kilometre.

The 1341 floods in Kerala, revealed through Pattanam excavations and geological studies, altered Periyar River's course, destroying Muziris port. Excess siltation created new land, like Vypin Island, and formed Cochin Port, reshaping the region's geography and history.

The current condition of Singda Dam is truly disheartening. The water has dried up. Deforestation and jhum cultivation in the catchment areas, along with sand mining and stone quarrying, have caused heavy siltation. This dam supplies water to the urban population of Imphal West.
