Big cycling improvements in Old Montreal! Previously these two bike lanes had a very awkward connection. Now the one on the left has been extended around the turn.

Funny double standard: in Quebec, cyclists cannot wear headphones. However, drivers are allowed to wear them in one ear, “in order for the driver to hear the sounds of the surrounding environment”. Even though drivers are already inside a vehicle and cyclists are not.

With 6.6 million trips in 2023, I think Chicago’s Divvy bike share might be the third most-used system in the US and Canada, after Montreal (11.6 million) and New York (34 million).

Rue Prince-Arthur is one of Montreal’s first pedestrian streets, dating back to 1981. It’s had its ups and downs over the years but it was redesigned in 2017 and it seems to be popular whenever we’re in the neighbourhood.

And beyond that the bike lane has been given a bigger buffer from traffic. Looks to be wider too.

The terms urban and village seem to lie on opposite ends of a spectrum and are likely to strike a dissonance when put together. After all, how can a village be urban?  Is the urbanity observed in villages different from other parts of the city?
