🔴NORTH WEST CAMBRIDGESHIRE: at the time of this this article in Cambridge student paper Varsity, Carling was aged just 21 in December, which makes him one of three youngest Labour candidates so far, though not the youngest: varsity.co.uk/news/26697

🔴NORTH WEST CAMBRIDGESHIRE (Lab target 226): Sam Carling picked as Labour candidate.

🔴CASTLE POINT (Lab target 410): Mark Maguire picked as Labour candidate.

In both cases the vast bulk of these outstanding selections are for seats the two parties can't realistically win. However, the Conservatives still have twenty vacancies in seats they currently notionally hold, where Labour only have five vacancies in seats they already hold.

By my reckoning Labour have about 118 candidates still to pick for the election, whereas the Conservatives have about 189. But these are very rough figures & there are bound to be candidates I don't yet know about.

🔴 SOUTH SUFFOLK: in recent years Emma Bishton has stood for this seat in alternate elections: 2010, 2017 and now 2024/25.

🔴KIRKCALDY & COWDENBEATH: new candidate Melanie Ward (replacing Wilma Brown) is CEO, Medical Aid for Palestinians. Former David Miliband chief-of-staff, International Rescue Cttee.  Worked for ActionAid UK & Christian Aid. Pres, NUS Scotland, 2004-06. Fought Glenrothes, 2015.

🔴 POOLE (Lab target 247): Neil Duncan-Jordan picked as Labour candidate.

🟠 SUTTON & CHEAM: Telegraph on the continuing dispute over the Lib Dems' selection and then de-selection of David Campanale in what should be one of their most promising seats.

🔵 STRATFORD-ON-AVON: Will Tanner, who is Sunak's deputy chief-of-staff in Downing Street, was a guest speaker at a meeting of Stratford Conservatives yesterday chaired by retiring MP Nadhim Zahawi. Tanner is clearly keen to replace Zahawi.

🔴 BOGNOR REGIS & LITTLEHAMPTON (Lab target 307): Clare Walsh picked as Labour candidate.

🔵 HEMEL HEMPSTEAD: the shortlist of four names for this week's selection is, I hear:
