IDK, it might be because the trade deadline happens every year and they publish the date for it at the start of the season and usually players are aware of their status through conversations with their agent and GM while we've had one team relocate in 27 years. Who's to say?

LRT: The Coyotes players found out they'll have to uproot their lives for relocation while on the road, with little to no communication from upper management. I'm all for the rawness of postgame interviews but they're probably not equipped emotionally or informationally for this.

Sources say NHL could be a broker between the Arizona Coyotes and Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith, paying Coyotes owner Alex Meruelo for the franchise and then selling it to Smith, with other NHL owners splitting a relocation fee.

Rick Tocchet on Arizona: It's too bad it's been so unstable. I think people are tired of the instability. What better place to sell hockey? The players love it. It's a great lifestyle. They have great fans there. It would suck if they left. It can be a really good hockey market.

NEWS: It's my understanding that Arizona Coyotes players are following the Utah relocation developments through the media and social media.

There has not been any formal discussion between the team and the players about where things stand or any sale agreement, per team source.

NEWS: If Arizona Coyotes relocate to Utah, an NHL source says that Coyotes owner could sell team to the league for $1 billion; and the NHL would sell the franchise to Jazz owner Ryan Smith for $1.3B. Owners would split $300M.
