Nice to deliver some habitat training recently at Abbeyleix raised bog and Granstown Lake in Co. Laois - two ecologically contrasting sites only 10 minutes apart, first Andromeda polifolia (Bog Rosemary) on the high bog, last two show 91E0 alluvial woodland & marl soil underneath

Meet Lepidothamnus laxifolius (Podocarpaceae), the tiniest conifer in the World, endemic from New Zealand. It mostly grows as a prostrate shrub that does not go above 10 cm tall. I got to hug a large clump, which was using a larger restio as support.

Depressing algal 'gloop' drowning grassland bryophytes at a SSSI in Somerset. Causes need urgent research but the alga(e) involved may be favoured by the surface eutrophication caused by high levels of deposition of atmospheric N.

I think, Arthrocnemum macrostachyum and Salsola kali (4th pic), on wet brackish limestone rocks by the coast of Brindisi, S Italy - the former species is widely distributed in the Med, Macaronesia, N Sahara, and SW Asia; it is a taller (woody) shrub than our Sarcocornia perennis
