The authors conclude that analysis of 20,000+ patient records revealed a higher COVID-19 breakthrough infection risk in patients on certain antineoplastic and immunomodulating drugs. This is a game-changer in protecting high-risk patients! 8/9

Despite pandemic related challenges, the authors identify significantly different post-immunization cytokine profiles in patients treated with WHO classified antineoplastic and immunomodulating agents. 7/9

CD20 monoclonal antibody & calcineurin inhibitors were linked to higher COVID-19 breakthrough infection rates. The authors argue this observation calls for tailored patient counseling and infection prevention strategies for patients treated with these medications. 6/9

The authors identified a critical Insight: their data shows a surprising link between PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors and an elevated risk of COVID-19 breakthrough infections. 5/9

Next, they pinpointed specific WHO-classified antineoplastic and immunomodulating agents that significantly heighten the risk of breakthrough COVID-19 infections. This critical insight is key for enhancing patient care alongside vaccines. 4/9

Using an unbiased approach, the authors systematically evaluated all antineoplastic and immunomodulating agents to pinpoint those most significantly associated with increased SARS-CoV-2 infection risk following immunization by assessing 20,000+ patients. 3/9

Although patients on antineoplastic and immunomodulating agents are at risk for post-vaccination infection, it is unclear which specific medications are associated with increased risk. 2/9
