So I ve a novel idea. Players ex players, sport authors involved in brain trauma, turn up at any local football/rugby game & see for yourself how concussion is managed. Challenge it. Sam Peters Stephen Thompson MBE Alix Popham
Progressive Rugby Surely that's all it is. The hard hits should always be part of the game - let's just do ALL we can to protect the brain...
Mental health matters. And post-concussion, it really matters.
A piece I've put together on the established link between concussion and mental health outcomes for #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek .

Phil Quinlan✍️🌍📚⚽️🏉 Player running towards goal collided with goalkeeper causing keeper to fall backwards. Clubs Medic came on and proceeded to do the eye finger test. Do they teach that in university? At least the medic was wearing her blue latex gloves.

But I think it’s clear we all care or we wouldn’t be engaging. I come from a family perspective of multigenerational rugby union players who love the sport and I want the best for them and their families from WR as a governing body.

If it’s just less relevant it should have been included.

As for me, there’s no secret, I was given a diagnosis of early onset dementia and probable CTE, & I’m a litigant in the case against your employers and others. In practice on here all I want to do is fully understand the issue 👍
Ross Tucker Tom Rock SteveIsWorriedAboutYouGuys Andrew Watkins World Rugby Sir Bill Beaumont Sam Peters Progressive Rugby Alix Popham Peter FitzSimons James Drake Chris Nowinski, Ph.D. Michael Buckland Stephen Thompson MBE As you’re not sure what this shows. It is a list preventative actions that includes Brain Injury. If you genuinely want to educate players, change attitudes & put welfare first why omit Brain Injury or Brain Trauma in the launch? Makes no sense. What possible reason can you give?
Ross Tucker Tom Rock SteveIsWorriedAboutYouGuys Andrew Watkins World Rugby Sir Bill Beaumont Sam Peters Progressive Rugby Alix Popham Peter FitzSimons James Drake Chris Nowinski, Ph.D. Michael Buckland Stephen Thompson MBE One but not the main. I’ll say it again. Third time. Why is brain trauma 1/12 modifiable risks completely excluded from the presentation? Best practice existing BH services do include it. Assuming you agree a disproportionately higher risk to this cohort why on earth exclude it?
Ross Tucker Open to Life SteveIsWorriedAboutYouGuys Andrew Watkins World Rugby Sir Bill Beaumont Sam Peters Progressive Rugby Alix Popham Peter FitzSimons James Drake Chris Nowinski, Ph.D. Michael Buckland Stephen Thompson MBE Yes of course, an agenda fuelled by paranoia and sensationalism (although I thought we’d agreed not to address each others motivations). The irony and what you fail to appreciate is I hope that is the case every single day. Cheers
Ross Tucker Open to Life SteveIsWorriedAboutYouGuys Andrew Watkins World Rugby Sir Bill Beaumont Sam Peters Progressive Rugby Alix Popham Peter FitzSimons James Drake Chris Nowinski, Ph.D. Michael Buckland Stephen Thompson MBE I’m sorry Ross but I the only conclusion I find credible is you are being deliberately obtuse on this, so thanks for engaging, but personally I’ll leave this here, it’s tiring.
Genuinely hope I’m mistaken and the scheme has huge impact. Thanks again.
Tom Rock Ross Tucker SteveIsWorriedAboutYouGuys Andrew Watkins World Rugby Sir Bill Beaumont Sam Peters Progressive Rugby Alix Popham Peter FitzSimons James Drake Chris Nowinski, Ph.D. Michael Buckland Stephen Thompson MBE The more I see that slide. The audience are rugby players with specific risk profiles and concerns. With early onset dementia being part of an aging population is not a gift some will have. Was it really the best WR could do?
Tom Rock Ross Tucker SteveIsWorriedAboutYouGuys Andrew Watkins World Rugby Sir Bill Beaumont Sam Peters Progressive Rugby Alix Popham Peter FitzSimons James Drake Chris Nowinski, Ph.D. Michael Buckland Stephen Thompson MBE Totally agree. Given stakeholder engagement is so critical, and the opportunity this initiative has to make a real difference, the choice of messaging is letting you, and the players, down. It definitely does not build trust which is essential if you want this service to be used
