We’re deeply concerned by reports that women and girls in Afghanistan have been arbitrarily detained and ill-treated since early January for allegedly violating the Taliban’s dress code for women. Afghan women’s fundamental rights must be respected.

🇦🇺 is deeply saddened by the killing & injuring of worshippers at the Pul-e Khumri Shia Mosque on 13 Oct 2023. We condemn this cowardly attack. Our thoughts are with the victims & their families. All Afghans, regardless of their ethnicity, gender or religion, must be protected.

With Australian funding, our humanitarian partners continue to respond to those most in need of support.

Australia will provide $1 million to support the people of Afghanistan, following the deadly earthquake which struck Herat Province.

The earthquake has exacerbated the dire humanitarian crisis affecting 29.2 million people.

Our deepest condolences to the Afghan people affected by the recent earthquake in Herat province. Australia remains closely engaged with our UN partners, who are already providing medical services, emergency shelter, food, water and protection.

Today marks two years since the fall of Kabul.

Our thoughts are with the Afghan people, the Australian-Afghan community, officials and ADF veterans who served.
