Beatriz Magaloni is the first Latin American woman to receive the Stockholm Prize in Criminology. Trained as a lawyer in Mexico and a political scientist in the United States, she has worked on groundbreaking criminal investigations into police behavior in Latin American countries.
Beatriz Magaloni study various aspects of police brutality, including illegal arrests, witness influence, falsifying evidence, and the use of torture to extract confessions. The study showed the benefits of comprehensive legal reform in Latin American countries.
