OTD Charlotte Salomon was born. The German Jewish artist from Berlin was murdered in #Auschwitz on 10 October 1943. She was 5 months pregnant. She created an autobiographical series 'Life? or Theater?: A Song-play' made of 769 paintings. I often look at her artwork with students.

OTD 1945, Elie Wiesel was liberated from Buchenwald concentration camp. Ten years later, he began writing his memoir Night. 'I knew I would have to bear witness.' I always recommend his book to my students. Such a powerful and moving testimony from someone a similar age to them.
