London is the only home I've ever known. It is a marvellous and welcoming city, full of tradition and opportunities. The people posting on this site who are desperate to convince you it's awful generally don't live here, which is excellent news for those of us who do.

Proposals to curb Personal Independence Payments (PIP) and change how people are assessed as unfit for work are dangerous.

Disabled people and people with mental health conditions must stop being seen as the problem by this government.

The whole point of PIP isn't that it's for disabled people who are out of work. It's for *all* disabled people, including those of us who are working. Because being disabled is very, very expensive.

The stated purpose of disability benefits is to compensate disabled people for the inevitable extra cost *of being disabled*. It's not intended to pay for medical treatment or routine living costs - we have the NHS and income-related benefits for that. 🧡theguardian.com/politics/2024/…

Some facts about

1. It is NOT an out-of-work benefit
2. The assessment & application process is hard. It is not 'easy to claim'
3. Only 40-45% of claims are successful
4. Getting the correct reward is difficult. Challenging it can take months.

Enough is enough. Disabled people are not the problem.

Last week the Prime Minister made a speech about so-called 'sicknote culture'. He also proposed major changes to disability benefits.

Today we're launching a petition in response to this full-on assault of disabled people.
