Today, I and my fellow West Midlands Council Leaders and Portfolio Holders have written to Andy Street to publicly declare our loss of confidence in his ability to lead our region.

We need a Mayor that will stand up for local authorities, not undermine us for political gain.

We have called on the Mayor of the West Midlands to keep his promises and deliver a better transport network for Birmingham,with:

🚊 A tram network extending to East Birmingham
🚌 Publicly owned buses
🚗 Long term, sustainable investment in our roads

As Local Government Association (LGA), Solace, County Councils Network & @CIPFA all acknowledge, today's local government financial settlement fails to ease the long-term funding crisis across the sector. Sadly, the next 12 months will see more cuts as councils of all political colours struggle to make ends meet.

Sir Tim Brighouse was an inspiration. As Birmingham’s Chief Education Officer from 1993 - 2002 he transformed the lives of a whole generation of Brummies for the better. Our city is so grateful for his service and sends its deepest condolences to Tim’s family and friends.
