We're excited to present this new exhibition 'Interpreting Epping Forest' which will open tomorrow and run until 7 July, at the #EppingForest Visitor Centre at Chingford.
The exhibition is free and will be open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am - 5pm (including Bank Holiday Monday).
This photograph of #AuroraBorealis above Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge was taken by Arran Woodhouse.
We'd love to see your 📷of the aurora lighting up the skies above #EppingForest - please share using #EppingForest Aurora!
Thank you!

From blossom to berries…
How short the window in which to enjoy the beauty and heady scent of hawthorn blossom is! No sooner has it arrived than it is gone, making way for those delightful berries that will brighten up the woodland in late summer / autumn!

Our grateful thanks to all visitors to #EppingForest this weekend, who took their litter home with them to dispose of it responsibly there. Leaving litter in the Forest is a hazard to our wildlife, such as this gorgeous family of swans at #HighamsPark . #KeepBritainTidy
A group of caterpillars is called an army. With #EppingForest 's trees in glorious full leaf, you may notice that army's parachute regiment suspended in mid-air. They can drop to escape predators before arduously climbing back to their host tree using delicate silken threads.🌳🪂
A wonderful May Fayre event was hosted by our friends Friends Of Swaines Green in #EppingForest today. We hope everyone who visited had a lovely time!
If you didn’t get the chance to attend today, #SwainesGreen is a lovely 22 acre area of Buffer Lands, well worth a visit.

The #Auroraborealis dancing above #EppingForest surely justifies a second tweet 🤔😂
What an incredible experience for those who witnessed this breathtaking natural spectacle last night! 🌈 #aurora #AuroraLondon #AuroraUK #NorthernLights #NorthernLights uk #NotSoNorthernLights
We welcome responsible dog walkers to #EppingForest .
Dogs should be under effective control at all times & must not chase or disturb wildlife. Please note that we are in the run up to fawning season. For more info, please visit cityoflondon.gov.uk/things-to-do/g…

Ferns in different forms, have been growing on Earth for hundreds of millions of years and can still be found in John Dennis today. Standing proud amongst the Forest’s myriad of greens, are the male ferns, which will eventually grow into the shape of large shuttlecocks.
Did you know that Loughton Camp is an Iron Age hillfort John Dennis with indications of much earlier use over a wider area, including the nearby pits and hollows? To prevent damage to this Scheduled Monument, cycling and horse riding is not allowed.
This John Dennis hornbeam is sporting thousands of epicormic shoots. These shoots grow from buds which lie dormant beneath the bark until triggered by conditions or stimuli such as drought or insect damage. The process behind this phenomenon is still not fully understood.

After rain you may spot 'forest soufflés' in #EppingForest . This foam occurs naturally from decomposing woodland materials.
🌳☔️💨
One way to distinguish it from pollution is the smell test: A ‘forest soufflé' smells earthy. Synthetic foams smell fragrant.

More fruits of EFC Volunteers labour directed by Epping Forest ecology team - a new 100sqm patch of the rare Lousewort (see BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland 2020 online Flora Atlas) expanding after >10yrs of dedicated glade restoration & conservation grazing. One dividend of this wet spring😊
Delighted to welcome Muslim Hikers to #EppingForest today, as part of Epping Forest Heritage Trust's guided walk series.
Today's group included around 200 individuals, most living locally, who have never visited the Forest before.
